ZED VS. THE LIBRARIAN-7

In their seventh round of "Stump the Librarian" (strip version), Zed and The Librarian talk money. Wouldn't you know it would come to this. LIBRARIAN TRIVIA: That looks like her bottle of red nail polish peeking out from behind her "Xenu is grumpy!" mug. Can anybody identify the brand? Send your answers to a.r.s.

In trying to STUMP THE LIBRARIAN regarding the Public Research
Foundation's Press Release, "HIDDEN TIES BETWEEN IRS AND SCIENTOLOGY
REVEALED," Zed asked (MUCH too loudly--Sh-h-h-h-h!):

>The value given for Hubbard's intellectual property in the 1992
>ruling of the US claims court is $25 million. Where does the
>"close to $100 million" figure come from?

GOOD QUESTION, ZED, BUT...YOU DIDN'T STUMP THE LIBRARIAN!

One place I can find where this figure exists is in a post that was
right here on a.r.s. back in July of this year.

Here are the germane excerpts:

<SNIP>

>The copyrights were valued at $25.0 million and the total estate
>at $26.5 million. So everything else was only $1.5 million. We
>know that RTC paid $80 million for the trademarks...

<SNIP>

Well, cuddling my body-heat-powered calculator (would you look at that
thing *glow*!), I tote it up this way: Copyrights (intellectual
property), $25,000,000, puh-LU-U-US trademarks (intellectual property,
natch), $80,000,000, eequ-u-a-a-als: $105,000,000!

Now, where Steve Jebson got his $80 million figure for the trademarks is
something I don't know, and where the Public Research Foundation got
their figures from, I don't know. They dint (oo, I get *goosebumps* when
Dennis says that) come ask this *accomodating* librarian for figures.

But I know I found documentation supporting the facts, and that's what
helps me keep *my* figure--climbing up and down that rickety old rolling
wooden ladder in this short, tight skirt. Since supporting documentation
is what I promised to provide...

---------------------------------------------------------------

NICE TRY, ZED, AND COME BACK *ANY* TIME TO PLAY...

STUMP THE LIBRARIAN.

Now, whattcha' going to take off, Zed? (I *did* tell you this was a
strip challenge, didn't I?)
